     Biography
Janis Brothers is a multimedia artist creating sculpture, installation,
video, photography, drawing, ceramics, and metals to explore human
experiences.  Her inspiration comes from the rural environment and her
familiarity with loss and death. Through narratives and haunting
aesthetics, her art explores the complexity of these universal themes.

Brothers' work varies from small-scale sculptures to encompassing installations, often presented in voyeuristic atmospheres. She embeds natural materials such as beeswax, insects and carcasses with video and sound.  Theses combinations evoke the senses with smell, tactile enticement and spiritual symbolism.  Her work reflects the similarities in the cycles of the natural environment and human life.

Brothers holds a BS in Interior Design and a MFA in Studio Art from Florida State University. She has worked as an artist and designer for more than thirty years. Her work has been exhibited nationally in juried, invitational and solo exhibitions including the Appleton Museum of Art Biennial Florida Installation Art, Camera USA National Photography Award and Exhibition, Boca Raton Museum of Art All Florida Juried Competition, Valdosta National and Art of the South at the University of Memphis. Honors include the Elizabeth Morse Genius Memorial and Ru Israels awards from the Florida Artist Group and Best in Show at the Valdosta National. Brothers is a member of the Florida Artists Group and actively participates in community venues, publishes articles, and judges and organizes exhibitions.
